Paralign Blinds

Engineering Refinement and Functional Prototyping

Paralign Blinds has a new window shading technology that enables optimization of brightness and privacy conditions for interior spaces.  Paralign came to Boston Device with a basic proof-of-concept, and they were looking for engineering assistance in the refinement of their core mechanism and the integration of automation electronics.

Working closely with the Paralign team, we first developed the core mechanical design in 3D.  The cam mechanism was refined using dynamic simulations, and all parts were developed with prototyping intent.  Concurrently, we selected the core electronics including linear actuators and limit switches.  We integrated batteries, a PCB, sensors and the motion control electronics into a package that was suitable for prototyping and functional evaluation.

After procuring all parts, performing the full electromechanical assembly, and completing thorough evaluation and debug, we handed the unit off to Paralign for continued functional evaluation.  This prototype unit has undergone functional testing over the last 6 months and continues to operate sufficiently.
